PROGRAMMES

 

  • Research, documentation and advocacy to promote and secure the human rights of women, youth, and PeopleLiving With HIV/AIDS and other marginalized populations.
  • Educating vulnerable population and citizens at large about their human rights and mobilizing them to demand accountability for their rights
  • Building capacity of variety of stake holders including media, lawyers, judiciary, human rights activist, health workers, employers, law enforcement agents and vulnerable populations on health and human rights including HIV and other sexual and reproductive rights issues;
  • Building strategic partnership with a variety of organizations for effective advocacy
  • Contributed to enactment of key policies and legislations eg HIV/AIDS anti-discrimination bill; Violence Against Persons Act, National Health Act and ongoing efforts to implement them
  • Legal counseling, mediation and litigations to redress violations; using strategic litigation strategies such as using pseudonym to protect the identity of a plaintiff living with HIV/AIDS.



ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Documented human rights violations experienced by PLWHA across the country.
  • Published case summaries of HIV/AIDS related litigation
  • Researched access to health care services for PLWHA in collaboration with Physicians for Human Rights and the Policy Project.
  • Researched experiences of PLWHA involved in clinical trials of herbal drugs in Nigeria
  • HIV/AIDS treatment access campaign in collaboration with MSF and other NGOs
  • Documenting experiences patient rights violation among health care users in Abuja and producing a documentary with the findings
  • Currently mobilizing a movement on accountability for patients’ rights violations and respectful maternity care

Economic Empowerment

 

PROGRAMMES

  • Building the capacity of vulnerable populations for income generation activities, financial management, microcredit and linkage to other sources of finance and support
  • Established a sustainable demonstration farm to promote backyard gardening to ensure adequate nutrition and income generation. Products include: fish, snails, grass cutter, rabbits, chickens, vegetables and fruits. .
