OBJECTIVES

Educate and generate public awareness on the rights of patients using the media; such as print, TV & radio phone-in/talk shows, group discussions, documentaries, drama and jingles.

Facilitate the formation of support groups of People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), and equip them with advocacy and activist skills for the realization of their right to health.

Inform health care providers on how to promote and protect human rights in health care institutions.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Facilitated the formation of a support group of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria called the Nigerian Aids Alliance (NAA), and was committed to building its capacity by working in partnership with it and other support groups of PLWHA.

CRH has carried out numerous mobilization, education and advocacy sessions targeting groups such as The Rotary Clubs, banks, hospitals, professional groups and traditional rulers, which were aimed at sensitizing people on HIV/AIDS, with an emphasis on the need for respect of the human rights of PLWHA, both in the home and the workplace. We have also held numerous discussion groups in the media to bring the issues around HIV/AIDS and human rights into the public agenda, popularizing the slogan “AIDS moving from FEAR to HOPE and SOLIDARITY”.

CRH, in conjunction with Mushin Democratic Wing - an association of local government employees in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State - organized a rally entitled “ Humane Response to HIV/AIDS” ON November 30, 2000.

In collaboration with Scoop & Scoople and Human Support Services, CRH carried out a 10km run tagged, “ Running HIV/AIDS out of Nigeria” (Project RHOON). People from all works of life participated in the run, which kept HIV/AIDS related discussion in the news several weeks after the event.
